Tamela Greathouse Greene is the founder of Greathousenyc, an interior design firm based in New York City. Tamela creates modern interiors infused with a unique perspective shaped by her many years in the fashion industry. Her fresh, sophisticated spaces reflect her eye for color, texture and pattern while remaining steeped in livability, longevity and functionality.

A native of Austin, TX, Tamela worked for Norma Kamali, Henri Bendel and Escada before becoming the creative director of a successful knitwear company. Her sweaters were featured in The New York Times, Vogue, Elle and Glamour; one of her designs was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair. Tamela’s lifelong passion for interior design turned from a hobby into a profession when she founded her eponymous firm in 2016. To date, she has designed homes in New York City, the Hamptons, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut and Texas.

She considers herself a client-driven interior designer, one who works hand-in-hand with her clients to help them define what they love and transform their vision into reality. “I love the process of connecting the dots,” she says. “Clients come to me with any number of criteria — maybe it’s colors they love, a tricky spacial issue they want to solve, or an overall feeling they want to create — and my job is to synthesize everything into a beautiful, logical whole.” Tamela has fluency in contemporary and modern design and a knack for the latest colors, prints, materials, and finishes. But above anything else, she believes a home should be a reflection of its owners’ personality. “There’s more to designing a room than picking out the right colors and furniture,” she says. “It’s about expressing your individuality, creating emotion and elevating your everyday.”
